Its key features include a large 4 inch touch screen, Wi-Fi Internet access, 5 mega pixel digital camera and the renowned Android OS (v2.1).

The Samsung Galaxy S features a super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen just like its sister handset the Samsung S8500 Wave. Measuring 4 inches and utilising a pixel resolution of 480x 800 pixels, the screen can display up to 16M colours. This results in superb quality display of the on screen imagery making it great for viewing photos and video files, especially when used in conjunction with the built in accelerometer sensor. Other features of the screen include multi-touch input method, touch sensitive controls and Swype text input.

Swype text input is a new way of entering text and text messages or when searching the Internet. It allows users to operate the onscreen QWERTY keyboard tracing their finger from one letter to the next without taking it off the keyboard. With a little practice, users will be able to significantly speed up the process of entering text and composing entire text messages.

Depending on which model is purchased, either 8 GB or 16 GB of internal storage is provided as standard. Although even the basic model should provide enough storage for most users, there is additional expandable storage in the shape of a microSD card slot which can accommodate a memory card of up to 32 GB. This offers the potential to store an impressive amount of data and can indeed store an entire digital music collection.

In order to connect to cellular networks on the move, the Samsung Galaxy S utilises class 12 versions of both EDGE & GPRS. Internet access is provided via an HSDPA connection at speeds of up to 7.2 mega bytes per second in areas covered by 3G. Wi-Fi Technology makes use of local Wireless Networks where available to provide a faster Internet connection, for a greatly enhanced browsing experience. To finish off the package of connectivity features, the handset also features micro USB and Bluetooth connections.

A great 5 mega pixel digital camera is included to take the superb quality digital photos. It includes features such as Autofocus, touch focus, face & smile detection as well as geo-tagging. It also boasts the ability to shoot video in 720p (HD).

As well as all this impressive hardware, there is a long list of additional features including social networking integration, dedicated Google and YouTube apps as well as a number of entertainment features including a versatile media player, a selection of pre-installed games and an FM radio player with RDS. GPS with A-GPS support allows various applications such as the digital compass to function. Business users are sure to appreciate features such as a document editor which is compatible with Microsoft Office and PDF documents.

Whatever you are looking for in a Smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S is sure to provide it. Rather than specializing in one of two tasks, the powerful hardware and software of the handset combines to make it a competent all rounder which indeed rivals many mainstream smartphone models.
